50s by 9:00. by noon, blue skies, sunny, warm, this afternoon, some temperatures climbing into the low '80s and then it will still be pleasant and clear if you have evening plans, temperatures still hovering near 70 degrees, so today sa cool day, chris. head to the beach as well if you make it there. chris. >> frances, thank you. developing news now, an amber alert has been issued for two young girls who were abducted by a woman t. girls are of asian dissent. on the left is a fin-year-old described as 4 feet, 6 inches tall and 60 pounds, in the middle is a 14-year-old they believe the abductor is a white woman. they were taken from greenville in plymouth county nearly three hours north of sacramento. she was driving a 2016 plaque

toyota prius with the license plate 7uhhoo 3. out of antioch the chbp is investigating how a car slammed into the back of a fire truck cumming the driver of this white car. it happened on highway 4 near the sum the firefighters and the ladder of the truck had minor injuries. it is unclear whether alcohol or drug were involved. in oakland, safety violations have been uncovered at a building where four people died in a fire monday morning. one fire fighter says the apartment building was dangerous. sky captured the terrifying scene. news reporter spoke with oakland's mayor and has the details. >> reporter: carl weathersby and cynthia green lost their father in the fire on monday. >> he saved his country.

he loved oakland. >> reporter: 64-year-old ed and wereson and three others died. we've learned firefighters wanted the densely populated building shut down months ago. >> you find out there were so many steps that could have been done to rid this fire. >> reporter: in an e-mail dated january 8th, a fire captain noticed a fire escape was padlocked. he recommended the fire marshall's office close it immediately due to the danger to life safety. an e-mail sent if february says the building is dangerous! it noted unmaintained smoke detectors. the oakland mayor's office released the documents after a reporter requested earlier this week brought the alarming e-mails to light. >> the e-mail that suggests that we consider shutting down the building is one that disturbs me greatly. >> reporter: the mayor announced today six more fire inspectors problem hired. additional training will take place. changes in the works since 36 people died in the fire. when asked who is responsible

for not heeding fire fighter warnings. >> we are continuing to investigate all of the actions, decisions and communications around this building. >> reporter: they'll keep allowing this kind of stuff to happen. >> a candle sparked the deadly fire. more than 100 people are now displaced. in oakland, abc 7 news. >> 5:04 is our time. authorities are still looking for a gunman armed with a shotgun in santa chara. they say he shot oa woman in a room just before 8:00 last night t. victim is being treated for serious injuries. police believe only the two men were inside the room. no one else was hurt. witnesses did not report a fight before the shooting. first there were protests, but now both healing, after a racially charged incident on social media at an east bay high school. abc 7 news was at albany high school for a unity rally yesterday afternoon. it came after some students were

charged by racially-filled posts on instagram. about 100 students and teachers came towing to sing and comfort one another, even some that weren't from the school. >> it's my life's work to bring children together and to teach them how to get along and to help me -- >> the students who created the instagram account has been suspended. this morning, parents will meet with school officials on campus. embattled california congressman devin nunes returned to his central valley district as he faces calls to step aside from the intel investigation into russia's influence over the presidential election. nunes represents the 22nd congressional district, which includes parts of fresno and our sister station spoke to nunes and has the story from fresno. >> reporter: hundreds of protesters lined the street outside the banquet hall where

should remove himself or recuse himself from the proceedings. >> yes, i do, i do. it's a fallacy that he thinks he can be impartial for his committee. he's already shown that he has ties to the white house. >> reporter: the congressman's meeting with the banking group is closed to the public. those who attended said he talked about the situation if washington and the valley's water issues. >> very well-spoken. >> reporter: millions of protesters on the street said they wished nunes would hold a town hall meeting and talk to them. >> again, that was jean hagenson reporting. nuno was criticized for receiving reports from the white house 11 days ago but in the sharing them with fellow committee members t. top democrat on the committee received the same materials yesterday. shoppers at a wal-mart had a scary moment last night. take a look at this, under surveillance photos show a man in a mask armed with a gun.

she says the projected $3.5 a year new sales tax revenue will may pay for a new city hall. >> the police department alone, it's way too small for them to do community policing t. library is a huge well used and it's small. you just can't accommodate a lot. >> reporter: newark's top percent hike brings the sales tax there to 9.5%. in campbell from 8.75 to the president of the silicon association says the higher taxes don't make sense. >> the politicians come to investigators and say, okay, we want to increase transportation, or we want to help with the homeless or went to help repair the potholes, our problem is, is that if that is a priority for the politicians, how come it's not in the current budget? >> reporter: across california, voters in 66 cities and counties approved sales tax incareer, some as high as a full

from daylight to dark, the iconic rainbow flag comes to symbolize the lbgtq community proudly over san francisco's castro district. that's where hundreds of people gathered last night to mourn the man who created that flag. gilbert baker passed away yesterday at his home in new york. abc 7 news reporter was at the memorial and has the story. >> reporter: in honor of gilbert baker, the man who created the gay pride flag, a huge of

marchers carried the banner down the street. in 1978, baker was commissioned by former san francisco supervisors harvey milk to create the flag. gay right actistists shared those memories. >> gilbert helped build the fabric of the first flags. >> reporter: when he talked to my colleagues before the premier of npc's when we rise" mini series. she shared some of the memories. >> oh my god. >> reporter: gilbert baker was 65-years-old, a part of a generation that pulled the gay community out of the closet and swooved the aids crisis. >> we managed to complete lives. so gilbert was a part of that. and the flag became this iconic symbol that was identifiable anywhere. >> reporter: the colors of the rainbow were intended to be a symbol of hope and unity. during a memorial the famous castro flag was honore in baker's honor and replaced with

a new one, a lasting icon of his legacy. nbc 7 news. three people are accused of starting a major fire under interstate 85 in atlanta. police arrested them for thursday's fire that burned so hot, it caused a bridge to collapse. officials haven't said how it started. one man is still in jail. part of i-85 will be closed for months. crews will have to replace nearly 250 feet of highway. $10 million in federal fund willing help to go to fix it. now to a potentially life-threatening recall t. makers of the epipen and epipen, jr., 13 lots made between december of 2015 and judgment of 2016 may not work in an emergency. for all the details go to our website abc 7 news.com or our mobile app. consumers should seek emergency medical help right away if their pen doesn't work. california's great america has announced plans to expand

the south bay theme park has bit projects in the works, including this new line, which opposite to the public at 10:00 a.m. today. officials are planning to build an area similar to downtown disney. abc 7 reporter explains. >> reporter: great america's newest thrill ride is the first roller coaster. the ride patriot welcomed members of the military to be its first riders. >> that's crazy they hit us with fireworks as soon as we came around. so it was quite an experience. >> reporter: great america says this is just the beginning. the city of santa clara approved expansion plans in rezoning the park. one of the biggest projects will be a commercial and entertainment in front of the park, similar to downtown disney the public will access it without going inside the park. >> w really lacking ine ear entertainment, restaurants, lever annual, all this type of activities for families and people that live and work in santa clara, so this is going to

be a destination point for us. >> the park operator plans to add 20 rides and attractions in the next two decades. the city also approved rides up to 250 feet tall. right now the tallest one tops out at 110 feet. >> now it's going to allow us to take this park to a new level. we will be able to build and bring the latest technologies, add a marketplace concept and enhance the overall experience of great america. >> reporter: another major project called city place, which includes a hotel, retail, restaurants and housing is across the street from great america. it's expected to be built in the next four years, right around the time new attractions will be ready at the theme park. it's going to stimulate our local economy by the taxes and filming up our hotels. >> a boost to the city looking to make its mark by entertaining the crowd. >> now

>> showing us quiet conditions with the satellite image. we look towards the bay bridge, temperatures are on the cool side the coolest numbers just before sunrise, san francisco 55, mountain view, 52. check out gilroy, 42 degrees. this time the east bay towards san francisco. we have some cool numbers as well in parts of the north bay, napa is only 48 degrees right now. check out how mild it is in fairfield, 58 degrees. what you will notice today is the winds have died down from this live shot. can we see the flags? not blowing as hard as they were yesterday. they allowed them to climb up sunny and warmer. patchy fog, though, tomorrow morning. >> that leads to slightly cooler conditions on sunday. then possible showers by the end of next week. that's not an april fool's joke. i will show you that in a bit. winds are not as bad.

the north bay, we see a northerly breeze. in napa, gusts could reach 35 miles an hour, then things die down late morning, then into the afternoon. a little breeze at the coast. highs today range and quite warm as well, 60s at the coast, 67 half moon bay, 72 in san francisco. we will see low '80s in parts of the north bay like santa rosa and napa, fairfield and the east bays, upper 70s in concord and livermore, san jose 78. if you are headed to the bay bridge game, series game today at the coliseum, you will need sunglasses and sunscreen, because temperatures will be warm starting off in the upper 60s and then it will be hitting the low 70s by the afternoon. 73 degrees. you want to head to the beach. it's a great day to go. a live shot of the beach. it's pretty quiet right now. but it will warm up to 76 degrees there this afternoon. a high uv index as well. if you need to cool down, you

can dip your toes into the water. tomorrow, here are the temperatures. they're going to be a little cooler. we will be dropping into to mid-70s, around the bay and 60s at the coast, 65 in san francisco. it still will be sunny and mild into sunday. temperatures will continue to come down a little bit more. then mild through mid-week. but i wanted to talk about some rain. here are the rain chances, so thursday night, we could see some light rain falling into friday. better chance of rain and possibly even into next weekend. so enjoy sunny and warm day ahead. because things are going to change by next weekend. we got a warmer day today with the accuweather forecast. a bit cooler for sunday, some patchy fog during the morning hours a. piled pattern monday and still above average into tuesday and wednesday and then here comes the change. thursday at night, we could get a chance of showers.

learning the truth. >> reporter: seeing the evolution of a phone scam is quite sinister and quite nasty. >> reporter: for years, the irs says if you get a call demanding back taxes and threatening jamie, it's a scam. >> well, guess what, now there will be people calling on behalf of the irs to collect taxes, which will be enormously confusing to the public. >> consumer action says scammers know the names of collection agencies and might use that to fool victims. >> it opens the door to a gargantuan increase in the number of irs impersonators contacting members of the public. >> reporter: the irs says a new law called fixing america's surface transportation act requires the irs to hire debt collectors to help pay for new roads. you see, debt collectors get a cut of the taxes they collect t. victims of the infamous scam wonder how to know if it's really the collection agency or really a scam.

>> am i going to believe it when somebody says this is xyz agency? >> no. but somebody else might. >> reporter: the irs says it will mail 2000 britain notices before any debt collector calls. if you get a call before getting a notice, it's probably a scam. also a real irs debt collector will never demand payment by wire or pre paid cards and you will never be threatened with arrest. i'm michael finney, 7 on your side. >> officers recovered $100,000 in cash in sam rare coins during a traffic stop on the bay bridge t.chp tweeted a photo of the officers. last week they spotted the vehicles suspected in the death of an elderly person's 40e78 and made the arrest. the suspect now faces a grand theft charge. the officer on the right was on her second day out of the academy. >> this is what happens when you bet against the warriors in

deficits one week before china's president comes to washington. but the congressional investigations into russia's meddling in the 2016 election continue to dominate the conversation. friday afternoon, adam schiff the democratic ranking member of the house intelligence committee arrived at the white house to review classified documents and meet with president trump. schiff described the meeting as cordial. also dominating the russia discussion, national security adviser michael flynn was asked for immunity from congress in exchange for his testimony t. testimony tweeting mike flynn should cc for immunity insofar as this is a witch hunt. flynn says he has a story to tell t. white house is concerned about what flynn might tell congress, press secretary sean spicer has one simple response. abc news, washington. >> bay area congress woman jackie spear told abc 7 news, it's way too premature to offer flynn or anyone else immunity into this investigation.

>> before congress would even give a thought to doing that, they're going to rely on the department of justice and the fbi, which is doing the criminal investigation and we don't want to do anything to jeopardize their criminal investigation. >> spears, a member of the house permanent select committee on intelligence, she'll be hosting a conversation with former u.s. ambassador to russia mike mcfall this afternoon at san mateo city hall. as democrats on the senate judiciary committee plan to filibuster the vote on supreme court nominee neil gorsuch, president trump is urging the senate to urge his nominee. he says he is qualified and has a sterling record. he says gorsuch's nomination is about preserving our republic. >> judge gorsuch is going to serve up, by devoting himself to our beloved constitution. what has been clear to all is that judge gorsuch is the man

who respects the law. he defends the constitution and in so doing, he will protect our freedoms. >> president trump also says with gorsuch on the supreme court, america will be a more free, fair and just nation for all citizens. happening today in san francisco, hundreds of people will rally against the conversation of neil gorsuch. this will be one of several rallies across the country called the people's filibuster aimed at resisting the trump agenda, organizers say he has a history of rulings anti-women and anti-disability rights. today's rally starts at 9:30 this morning at justin herman plaza. the second runway is shut down for the week. so it can be repaved. the runways need repaving about every ten years or. so runway 28 left is mostly used for arriving flights. in addition to repaving, crews will also upgrade the lights, add a new taxiway and improve an

existing one. this is the first of several weekend close years, which are expected to last through mid-june. new this morning, more than half of bay area residents polled in a recent survey think the economy is getting worse t. bay area council served 1,000 residents. they found 31% believe the bay area economy is doing better now than six months ago. they found 45% of people feel a significant economic downtown will hit the bay area sometime in the next three years. they say there is a connection between the housing shortage a jobs. virtual reality may be fun and games, but it's also becoming big business and creating jobs in the bay area. abc 7 news reporter jonathan bloom attended a conference where it seems like everyone is hiring. >> reporter: in reality, he is punching thin air. but he's a contender for the
